Don’t Keep Silent (DKS)
A little about DKS:
DKS
is a campaign I started the day I became one of many. The day neither
woman nor man should ever have to go through. Rape is a serious offence
to the human race, it is down right despicable. It broke my heart two
years before sitting in my high school criminal justice class when
learning that many victims never report the crime, nor do they seek
counseling. Don’t Keep Silent doesn’t just mean that you should report
the crime, it means to find help through a hot line, or a SAAFE House
if you have one in your area, a school counselor, a well trusted
friend. Reporting the crime and filling charges, with the added help of
just plain talking about it is much healthier for your state of mind
and physical condition. Please if you have been through this horrific
event, or know someone that has, encourage them to seek the help that
can be provided. I also encourage you to take your family and friends
along to seek the same therapy, a rape not only affects the victims,
but their close loved ones as well.
Current Happenings for DKS:
At
the moment since this campaign has just started, I’m branching out
locally and then further beyond that creating a ripple effect. I’m
gathering poems, short stories, art, anything photographs of anything
that reminds victims and their friends and families of what they went
through, or helps them day by day, I hope to turn all of this into a
book of collections to publish not only to help spread the word, but to
help raise money in order to help victims and their families pay of the
medical expenses that Crime Victims’ Compensation Benefit and insurance
will not pay. I was lucky enough that my father’s insurance covered
most of mine; others may not be as lucky and may have a higher bill
than others to pay. Even if it’s a little bit, every little bit helps.
(If you have writings or art work you would like to submit, please send
them to me at dont.keep.silent@gmail.com
Future Hopes and Goals for DKS:
I
hope to have motivational speeches and such planned and in the process
with in the next year and a half, and I hope to have enough funds from
the collection book to start helping victims out finically. And of
course last but not least by all accounts, I hope to help the many
millions of victims and their families to the best of my ablities.
